Vincent Taber, MD
Vincent started learning cornet at the age of 7. He studied trumpet and performance at the Birmingham School of Music. As a postgraduate he studied at the National Centre for Orchestral Studies and performed under many professional conductors.
His freelance trumpet career took him to many parts of Europe, including 3 tours of Spain and various recording projects.
In 1992, Vincent became a peripatetic brass teacher and later Head of Brass in two London boroughs. He returned to Suffolk as Senior Brass Tutor with Suffolk County Music Service in 2002, holding a range of senior posts.
Vincent enjoys performing on trumpet in a variety of musical styles. He has recently conducted the Suffolk Concert Band. As Musical Director of St Peter’s Band (part of Ipswich Hospital Band) he has conducted successful concerts and outdoor engagements.
Richard Atkins, Musical Director 22-23
Richard joined CLO as 1st Trombone in 2018 after retiring from a lifetime of Mathematics teaching. In 2008 he started to rekindle his love for music, joining a local brass band. He became Musical Director of Yarwell & Nassington Britannia Band for eight years, winning prizes at the Saddleworth Whit Friday Marches Festival and also at the Hardraw Scar Festival for Brass Bands. He welcomes the chance to conduct CLO, as orchestral music is his first love. He also plays piano and organ.
Richard looked after the orchestra for almost a year when Roger was taken ill.
Cecilia Metherell, Leader
Cecilia joined CLO in 1998. After career and family responsibilities she was able to to take the final Associated Board examinations and performing diploma. In 2018 she was awarded a first class honours degree in Music from the Open University. Since then Cecilia has enjoyed playing in several orchestras and had the opportunity to perform Mozart’s 5th Violin Concerto with a local ensemble. Cecilia works hard to ensure that string players’ bows move together and in the same direction.
